STEDY Offers Programs For High School Students In Yuma County

STEDY Southwest Technical Education District of Yuma provides improved job skills training for high school students. A CTED is an Independent school district specifically established to provide approved career and technical education (CTE) or "vocational" programs to high school students.

Exploring careers at STEDY & Yuma ABEC's summer camp

Over 160 middle schoolers registered to partake in the Career Exploration Camp offered by the Southwest Technical Education District of Yuma (STEDY) and the Yuma Arizona Business and Education Coalition (ABEC) this week.

Between STEDY’s central campus and the University of Arizona Yuma, campers learned firsthand about digital animation, mental health, law and public safety, medical assisting, sports medicine, agriculture and food science and nutrition and human performance. Each day, students rotated through two of the eight available modules and learned basics of the subject along with career opportunities in its field.

An internship is at the very core of career and technical education (CTE) according to Southwest Technical Education District of Yuma (STEDY) Superintendent Tom Tyree. Why? Because it’s hands-on learning by doing, and as STEDY continues to grow, he hopes to foster a deeper partnership between business and education so that students can have access to practical mentorship and businesses can receive more recognition in the process.

Cosmetology Interview with the Sun Newspaper

To become a cosmetologist in Yuma, the closest option is to study and become certified in Phoenix. But come fall 2023, students at the Yuma Union High School District will finally be able to study for and obtain cosmetology certification locally at little to no cost, thanks to a partnership between the district and the Southwest Technical Education District of Yuma (STEDY).

STEDY Superintendent Tom Tyree and YUHSD Associate Superintendent Tim Brienza shared that the partnership will repurpose a classroom space in Vista High School to serve as a cosmetology lab. Up to 40 students will be able to study in the first year – each section taught containing a maximum of 20 students – and another 40 will be added in the second

STEDY Receives Cognia Accreditation

Spring 2021, STEDY came to the end of a two-year journey in the process of accreditation. The accreditation was sought by Cognia (formerly known as AdvanceEd). Cognia works with schools and systems of all types and sizes across the globe to clearly assess the quality of your institution and to help them meet the needs of every student. Cognia provided STEDY with an explicit set of research-based standards and evidence-based criteria for accreditation and certification.

Cognia examined our entire district - its policies, programs, practices, learning conditions, and cultural context to determine how well the parts work together to carry out our vision and meet the needs of every learner. Their team interviewed staff, teachers, students, parents, community members, and the governing board.

Based on the set of standards and criteria set before us, it was determined that STEDY met and exceeded the standards, thus resulting in the valuable recognition of excellence and accreditation. STEDY is gaining recognition and this accreditation validates our passion of preparing our student's for tomorrow's workforce.
